We are so often lost in thought that we have no idea of what is going on in the moment. Where is your attention right now?
We rarely focus on what we are doing, rather our mind is engaged in thought about one thing and our body is doing something else.
One of the biggest benefits of mindfulness training is the ability to recognise that out mind is far away from the present moment.
The easiest way to be present in this moment is to use all of our senses and focus on what is around us. Concentrate on what you are seeing in this moment, what can you hear, touch right now taste or smell. What thoughts are present in your mind and what is going on in your environment; this allows us to be in the moment.
We are rarely in direct experience of the moment, because we are always judging our experience as good and bad, We like, this and we don’t like that. With mindfulness we cultivate an attitude of acceptance and equanimity to whatever shows up in every moment.
